Salad & Juice? How good can it be?

Salad & Juice? How good can it be?

Asian Chicken Salad w/ Orange & Carrot Juice

Café 8.98 has an eclectic selection of sandwiches, burgers and pasta dishes, and I love them as much as the next person.

However, every once in a while I want to opt for something a little healthier. You know, to retain some of that “beach body” and to get a good vitamin boost. Thankfully, the café also caters to the more health-conscious customers, and so I decided to give the Asian Chicken Salad a try.

Salads often suffer from the prejudice of “being bland and lacking any flavor”. In this case, it couldn’t be any further from the truth. The Asian Chicken Salad has all the distinct flavors you would normally find in a traditional Thai dish. There is the sweetness from the grilled chicken marinade, the mild spiciness from the chili, and the light fruitiness from the pomegranate. It, of course, wouldn’t be Thai without the obligatory cashew nuts.

The real winner for me, though, is the savory dressing. It is a great mix of soy sauce, sesame oil and fresh ginger. Doesn’t sound too bland now, does it? I certainly don’t regret exchanging the more heavy carbs for a solid boost of healthy fats and protein.

In order to really go the whole nine yards on my health trip, I also got an Orange & Carrot juice, which comes in a flip-top bottle. It was a fantastic addition to an already fantastic meal and I highly recommend it. So, if you are still of the opinion that salads have neither taste nor flavor than the Asian Chicken Salad might win you over. Personally, now that I had this one, I will certainly try out some of the other salads as well. Or since I’m already looking after my “beach body”, maybe I’ll have one of those Breakfast Bowls. Perhaps the Smashed Avocado on Whole Wheat Toast? As I mentioned in the beginning, there is by no means a shortage of superb dishes for the health-conscious customer.
